Revelation 21:1 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
Follow this "link" to the commentary.I live in the desert... or on a little plateau right above it but below the rim.... out here in Arizona. We go without rain for months. The air is full of dust almost all year round. But... in the Spring and the Fall after the first good rain... The air is cool and clean... and it's so easy to breathe. Back in Maryland, Spring begins with sweet smelling flowers and the cherry trees break out in beautiful sweet flowers. It's so easy to breathe.
In these verses, I can see the first Spring after the demolition of Satan's homies.
I saw one of those "end of the world" movies on TV a couple decades ago.... and the end just really stuck with me. It was silent.... like after the last clap of thunder or the eye of a hurricane. It was silent... and the landscape almost appeared to be Moonlike, but redder... like Mars. People started to crawl out of their hiding places... and they all had that awestruck smile.
The movie ended with "Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.".
There was a huge sun and moon.... and everything looked clean and fresh.... It was a fresh start.
Today, right about now, a neighbor of mine is leaving on a flight to Michigan. She has been diagnosed with MS. She's not as old as I am, but she's retired. She's moving back to Michigan to be near her family as the symptoms are closing in on her. She has a while before she will be debilitated. She knows the disease well... She is a retired nurse.
She sold off and gave away all of her things. She's making her move with a couple of suitcases and her little dog. She said she will be buying used stuff to replace the stuff she unloaded here, when she gets there. She has an apartment waiting for her.
I envy her. She's getting a "fresh start".
When I read the verses in today's study, I think of those two stories combined. When Jesus is done throwing Satan and his homies into that soup of fire and the lock is placed so no one gets loose again, the earth will have a fresh start. The Brothers and Sisters in Christ will all come out of their hiding places. They will walk on the same old earth... but it will be new again... fresh... clear.... crisp even.... and it will be beautiful...
AND... We will be His Children... and He will care for Us. Our Big Brother, Jesus, will give Us a tour. We will be welcome to drink from the "spring of the water of life". We will be eternally God's kids.
Those of Us who are courageous enough to keep the Faith will have eternal life.
This is about "A fresh start for God's Kids".
